People might give speeches to say that this is a secular country, conferences on secularism can happen, people might say that in this age and time the caste of a human being is not important, but caste system is still alive in this country. Forget other things but when it comes to wedding, there have been brutal violence caused by caste system. The marriages that were meant to happen have broken apart. And severed relationships have gone further away from each other. Brutal killings have occurred because of caste.

This story takes place in a village called Seegehalli, located in the old Mysore region. In this village lives a family belonging to the vokkaliga community. Self esteem and honor are the backbone of this family. A girl born in this family, Kanti, is our Protagonist. She is 21yrs old; she loves her father (Madhegowda) mother (Netra), and elder brother (Munkunda). Her beauty matches that of moon and her heart is as pure as the white light that emanates from the moon.

Kanti is doing her graduation in Mysore. A dalit boy, Ravindra who belongs to her village is also studying there. Ravindra is intelligent, he likes Kanti, and he does not try and hide it. Kanti sees this but ignores it. She does not hate him but does not want anything beyond friendship between them.

When the serial begins, both of them have completed their studies. It is Kanti’s birthday; Ravindra has given her a small gift and a letter along with it. In the letter he has expressed his love for her. He has proposed to her. Kanti is shocked to read this. She meets him and tells him that she likes him but cannot marry him. He asks her the reason for the refusal to which she says they belong to different caste. Ravindra asks will she agree if her parents give their consent. Kanti is speechless. Ravindra goes away saying he’ll talk to her parents.

Ravindra goes to Kanti house and talks to her father and brother. They hold caste against him and insult him. They ask him how he even dared to take this step, and force him to leave. The fact that a lower caste boy expressed the desire to marry his daughter puts Madhegowda in deep thoughts. He decides to arrange Kanti’s wedding immediately, at this point he remembers Chandregowda from Santhekatte.
