Karnataka has voted for it's Best Legislator

Bangalore, 20^th January 2007 :
MR.SHIVANAND PATIL, Congress MLA from Basavana-Bagewadi has emerged as the “ESSEL KARNATAKA’S BEST LEGISLATOR”. Essel Group and Zee Kannada had called for nominations from the legislators of Karnataka for the Award.

The process of selecting Karnataka’s Best Legislator began in December. Nearly 100 nominations were received from the legislators and their well-wishers. A committee comprising senior journalists short-listed 16 legislators from among the nominations received. The list of the short-listed candidates was in-turn placed before an eminent Jury headed by Justice M.F. Saldhana, which selected five finalists. The five finalists were: Mr.Jayaprakash Hegde, Ms.Motamma, Mr.A.T. Ramaswamy, Mr.Shivanand Patil and Mr.Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri.

The public was invited to choose one among the top five finalists as Karnataka’s Best Legislator through tele-voting. Mr.Shivanand Patil secured the highest number of votes.

At the award ceremony held on January 20, 2007, legislators who have rendered yeoman service to the State were also felicitated. They included: Mr.Mallikarjuna Kharge and Mr.Dharam Singh – the longest serving members of the Karnataka Legislature, besides Mr.Krishna Byre Gowda – one of the youngest MLAs and Mr.Vatal Nagaraj – the longest serving independent Member.

This is the first in the series of awards instituted by the Essel Group in Karnataka. “Ours is a Group fired by the spirit of nationalism and patriotism. Through these awards, we hope to inspire the youth and instill in them a pride for India's rich heritage. The awards represent the group's strong resolve to empower the people and thereby build a vibrant and resurgent India” said Mr.Subhash Chandra, Chairman of Essel Group and Zee Network.
