Zee Kannada creates history
Bangalore, 19th March 2007 :
Zee Kannada’s unique handkerchief signature campaign to support the Indian Team in the forthcoming Cricket World Cup ’07 has created a history of sorts. The campaign has succeeded in collecting over 55,000 hankies, creating the Worlds longest chain of signed handkerchieves. The chain extends to over 17.149 km in distance. The function was inaugurated by His Highness Srikantadutta Narasimharaja Wodeyar on Thursday at Palace Grounds, Bangalore amidst a lot of fanfare. It also witnessed the maximum number of signed hankerschieves collected and biggest handkerchief with signatures.
The ‘Fall! Rise! Win & Return – India’ campaign started by Zee Kannada on February 23rd has received overwhelming response not only from the people of Karnataka but also from the entire country in less than a fortnight. Prominent signatories being Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group and Zee Network, signing the first handkerchief, followed by Chief Minister, H D Kumarswamy; Deputy Chief Minister, B S Yediyurappa; and various eminent personalities like Home Minister, M P Prakash; Member of the Board & Director HR, Infosys, Mohandas Pai; Chairman, Jain Group of Institutions, Chenraj Jain; Artiste, Umashree; Swimmer, Nisha Millet; noted Music Director Hamsalekha and others.
“This unique campaign has succeeded in collecting handkerchieves from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, North Eastern states and Karnataka. Zee Kannada’s team traveled across the state to over 50 schools, 25 colleges, IT companies, NGO’s, Media houses, malls, institutions and shops. Wishes poured in from people of all walks of life, such as politicians, film stars, television artistes, sports personalities, media people and other celebrities. Wishes were also collected through SMS and email messages and were transferred on to hankies”, said Mr.Vijay Grover, Head of News, Zee Kannada.
Mr.Anup Chandrasekharan, Business Head, Zee Kannada, said, “Zee Kannada received tremendous support and encouragement for this unique campaign from Spice Telecom, The Millenium Markeing Services, Dr. Rajkumar Marwari Kannada Abhimana Sangha, our stringers across the state and our offices across the country. This is entirely a team effort and would not have been possible otherwise. We are hoping our “Men In Blue” also show the same efforts and win us the cup.”
The Jury comprised Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board and retired Chief Secretary, Dr A. Ravindra; Managing Editor of Vijaya Karnataka, Mr Vishveshwar Bhat; Editor (Special Projects), The New Indian Express, Mr R.K. Mattoo; Retired Director of Small Savings, Mr H. Raghupathy; Head, Department of Electronic Media Studies, Bangalore University, Prof N.S. Ashok Kumar; Senior Journalist Mr Shashidhar Bhat; Winner of the Essel Karnataka’s Best Youth Legislator Award, Mr Krishna Byre Gowda; and President of the Karnataka State Government Employees Association, Mr L. Bayrappa.
He also added to say, “These wishes will definitely reach the Indian team to strengthen their support”.
