Mr.Madan Gopal adjudged Karnataka’s Best IAS officer

Bangalore, 13^th March 2007 :
Primary Education Commissioner, Mr. Madan Gopal has been adjudged Essel Karnataka’s Best IAS officer by an eminent Jury headed by Justice H. Ranghavittalachar.

Mr. C. Jayaram was selected as the Best IFS officer, while Ms. M.V. Savithri, Registar, NIMHANS, is the Best KAS officer. Bangalore University Deputy Registrar Ms.P. Mallika has been selected from the other officers category.

Mines Director, Mr. Madan Gopal had made a name for himself by taking on the powerful granite lobby, thereby saving the State crores of rupees. Mr. Jayaram is credited with reviving the lakes in Bangalore. Ms. Savithri has made a name for herself as a no-nonsense officer who does not bow to political pressure. Ms. Mallika has endeared herself to the public through her proactive approach.

The winners were selected from among nominations sent by the officers themselves or by their well wishers. “We had called for nominations through press advertisements and through Zee Kannada. In the final adjudication, only the names of officers whose nominations were received, were considered by the Jury,” said Mr. Gautham Machaiah, Vice-President , Essel Group and Zee Network.

The Jury comprised Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board and retired Chief Secretary, Dr A. Ravindra; Managing Editor of Vijaya Karnataka, Mr Vishveshwar Bhat; Editor (Special Projects), The New Indian Express, Mr R.K. Mattoo; Retired Director of Small Savings, Mr H. Raghupathy; Head, Department of Electronic Media Studies, Bangalore University, Prof N.S. Ashok Kumar; Senior Journalist Mr Shashidhar Bhat; Winner of the Essel Karnataka’s Best Youth Legislator Award, Mr Krishna Byre Gowda; and President of the Karnataka State Government Employees Association, Mr L. Bayrappa.

This is the third in the series of Awards launched by the Essel Group in Karnataka. The first two awards were devoted to legislators and sportspersons. April’s award is devoted to the State’s best NGO/ Social worker.
