Lines Open for Essel Karnataka's Best Sportsperson Award.

Bangalore, 08^th February 2007 :
The Jury of the Essel Karnataka's Best Sportsperson Award has declared the winners under five different categories. One among them will be selected as “The Best Sportsperson” by the people of the State through televoting.

The Jury headed by Justice M. Ramakrishna, retired judge of the Karnataka High Court, comprised Olympic swimmer Nisha Millet, Bureau Chief of Prajavani newspaper Gopalakrishna Hegde, Chairman of the Bangalore Football Association K.G.S. Alva, Bureau Chief of The New Indian Express, S.S.Srikumar and President of the Karnataka Athletic Association G. Parameshwar.

The winners they chose are: Arvind Savur (Sustained contribution to sports), Pankaj Advani (Youth Icon), Savitha Goud (Rural Youth), Malathi Holla (Specially-abled) and Madiah (Lifestyle sports).

The Awards will be given away by Essel Group and Zee Network Chairman Subhash Chandra at Bangalore on February 22. “We received over 100 nominations from sportsperson from across the State. A panel of sports journalists short-listed 15 candidates and placed them before the Jury which in turn selected five finalists,” said Mr.M.Gautham Machaiah, Vice-President, Corporate and Public Affairs, Essel Group.

Voting lines are open from February 7 to February 17, 2007.
